SPECIAL SERVICES AT HOME FOR ADULTS
The
Special Services At Home Program is a goal oriented program for people with
developmental disabilities and provides a one-to-one worker who will provide
service by:
Developmental
Programming: Teaching and strengthening life skills including cooking and
literacy, for example. Workers will provide valuable opportunities for people
to engage in community socials including swimming, bingo, line dancing
etc. Workers are driven by the person?s interests, goals and strengths.
Programming goals are determined by the person receiving services, assuming
they are in agreement with agency and program policies and guidelines.
Respite
Care: Provides families with respite allowing family members time to
address their own needs and/or the needs of other family members.
It is the expectation that each client will:
- Be treated with respect and dignity by staff, students,
volunteers and their voice and opinions will be heard and respected
- Be viewed to possess significant skills and strengths to offer
each other and the community
- Have a regular opportunity to pursue their goals and meaningful
activities that provide many opportunities for clients to strengthen skills
sets and explore new interests
- Receive encouragement to complete tasks to the best of their
abilities and receive the least amount of required intrusive support.
- Not experience any punitive or restrictive actions from staff,
students, volunteers. Restraints are not practiced or authorized within
the program. Staff receive mandatory training in non-violent crisis
intervention.
- Have a safe and comfortable environment to participate in.
The
Special Services at Home Program is staffed by one Program Co-ordinator and a
number of part time Special Services Workers, who are employed on an annual
contract basis. Unlike other Family Counselling Centre of Brant, Inc. programs,
referrals to the Special Services at Home Program are processed by the Ministry
of Community and Social Services. Applications are approved and funding is
designated to each family on an individual basis. Applications are forwarded to
the Family Counselling Centre of Brant for coordination of service delivery.
