Special Services At Home For Adults
The Special Services At Home Program is a goal oriented program intended to assist families in caring for developmentally challenged family members. These family members have additional needs which require services beyond the basic care normally provided by families. When this is the case, the Ministry of Community and Social Services has a commitment to assist through the provision of a range of family support. Special Services at Home is one of this range of community services for families caring for a developmentally challenged adult living at home.
The Special Services at Home Program is staffed by one program co-ordinator and a number of part time Special Services Workers, who are employed on an annual contract basis. Unlike other Family Counselling Centre of Brant, Inc. programs, referrals to the Special Services at Home Program are processed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. Applications are approved and funding designated to each family on an individual basis. Applications are forwarded to the Family Counselling Centre of Brant for coordination of service delivery.
The program provides a one-to-one worker who will intervene in one or both of the following areas:
Developmental Programming - teaching activities of daily living such as dressing, cooking, money management, etc. Implementing recommendations from a Behaviour Therapist/Consultant, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
Respite Care(Parent Relief) - providing families with relief so family members can have time for their own needs, or the needs of other family members.
There are occasions when one Special Services At Home worker will work simultaneously with more than one client. These situations require prior approval from the co-ordinator of the program.
The program is funded entirely by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, and hours of service are determined through the application process. |
