SPECIAL SERVICES AT HOME FOR ADULTS

The Special Services At Home Program is a goal oriented program for people with developmental disabilities and provides a one-to-one worker who will provide service by:

Developmental Programming: Teaching and strengthening life skills including cooking and literacy, for example. Workers will provide valuable opportunities for people to engage in community socials including swimming, bingo, line dancing etc.  Workers are driven by the person?s interests, goals and strengths. Programming goals are determined by the person receiving services, assuming they are in agreement with agency and program policies and guidelines.

Respite Care: Provides families with respite allowing family members time to address their own needs and/or the needs of Special Services at Home worker with clientother family members.

It is the expectation that each client will:

  1. Be treated with respect and dignity by staff, students, volunteers and their voice and opinions will be heard and respected
  2. Be viewed to possess significant skills and strengths to offer each other and the community
  3. Have a regular opportunity to pursue their goals and meaningful activities that provide many opportunities for clients to strengthen skills sets and explore new interests
  4. Receive encouragement to complete tasks to the best of their abilities and receive the least amount of required intrusive support.
  5. Not experience any punitive or restrictive actions from staff, students, volunteers.  Restraints are not practiced or authorized within the program. Staff receive mandatory training in non-violent crisis intervention.
  6. Have a safe and comfortable environment to participate in.

The Special Services at Home Program is staffed by one Program Co-ordinator and a number of part time Special Services Workers, who are employed on an annual contract basis. Unlike other Family Counselling Centre of Brant, Inc. programs, referrals to the Special Services at Home Program are processed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. Applications are approved and funding is designated to each family on an individual basis. Applications are forwarded to the Family Counselling Centre of Brant for coordination of service delivery.
