Budget Counselling can be a long term process and is provided on an as-need basis. Appointments are scheduled by the budget counsellor as often as is deemed necessary, either weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
Counselling involves assisting the client to learn new skills, such as goal setting and budgeting.
It can also include third party mediation on behalf of clients to assist them in dealing with their creditors. The budget counsellor may also refer the clients to other services in the agency, such as Credit Counselling, Family Counselling or other agencies in the community.
The budget counsellor provides education and information sessions to agencies and groups in the community who work with low-income families and individuals. Our goal is to educate these individuals about money management in order to stop the cycle of poverty.
Mind Your Own Budget is funded by the Corporation of the City of Brantford, Social Services Committee which administers money from the National Child Benefit Reinvestment Strategy funds. |
