HAMILTON BRANT BEHAVIOUR SERVICES

Hamilton Brant Behaviour Services is a community-based service for children, adolescent and adults with developmental disabilties with significant behavioural/emotional problems. Under the supervision of a registered psychologist, our Behaviour Consultants work with individuals and their primary care and/or service providers, teaching practical ways to promote healthy behaviours.

What we know:
  • People behave in certain ways because those behaviours get their needs met
  • Behaviour needs to be understood in relation to the person’s abilities: physical, emotional, and cognitive.
  • Each of us has the power to control our own behaviour. We cannot control the actions of others, however we can model and support appropriate behaviour.
How to Support Behaviour:
  • Consistency between home, school, workplace, and community
  • Focus on positive behaviours
  • Reinforce newly acquired skills
  • Teach what you want to see
  • Provide a supportive environment
  • Be Proactive
